"Who's in Control" - Working with children in groups  - Christchurch

Tuesday August 16th, 10 am-1.30 pm
Rarakau: Riccarton Centre, 199 Clarence Street, Riccarton, Christchurch

Please note: masks are required at all our in person events.

Many new staff talk about the overwhelming experience of their first days in OSCAR: What am I supposed to be doing? How do I get kids to listen to me? “I’m not sure if those kids should be doing that!”

This workshop session is aimed at building confidence in your less experienced staff and helping them to develop effective practices in group management. We use games, scenarios and interactive discussion to highlight the basics of keeping control, especially when things get busy.

Your experienced staff will benefit from hearing about different approaches to common situations and strategies to get staff on board with a consistent approach to group management.

Topics
- The foundations of group control - what works and what doesn't
- Getting and keeping a group’s attention
- Positive behaviour reinforcement techniques for groups
- Responding to minor misbehaviour in a group setting
- Directing groups when under pressure
- Routines, processes and rituals to manage groups

Along the way we will link basic group management techniques to child development principles, which will give all your staff a firm foundation to take an active role in daily group settings.

Cost: OSCN members: $45-00 per person, ($40.00 per person for groups of 3 or more) Non-members: $65-00 per person.
