About this course
OSCAR safeguarding & child protection (workshop)
A three-hour in-person session that covers the core knowledge and skills for all staff to maintain organisational safety and to identify & respond to child well-being and safety concerns. We have found that in-person workshops provide a more supportive and sensitive learning environment, so this is the best option for staff undertaking safeguarding training for the first time.
Our facilitators have all held OSCAR roles and so these sessions follow closely the particular characteristics of OSCAR programmes. Learning is enhanced by the shared experience of other OSCAR practitioners.
Topics
Recognising vulnerable children
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and impacts on development, health, and well-being
Different types of harm, categories and possible indicators of abuse
Disclosures and how to respond safely
Reporting, referring and recording concerns
Allegations against staff
Safe practices when working with children
Promoting a safeguarding culture in your programme and organisation
“All of these are bricks in our wall to help mitigate child safety risks.” A substantial workbook is provided for all participants and this provides a valuable resource for future professional practice.

We also offer this course as a webinar. Look for it in our full course catalogue.
