Working positively with children - strengths-based practice in OSCAR

This workshop aims to build staff confidence and practical skills when working with groups of children and responding to minor disruptions and off-track behaviour during activities. It also addresses basic supervision and safety responsibilities and will raise awareness of how OSCAR, as a group-based programme, helps children’s learning and development and the influential role staff have in this process.

This is a great team-building workshop, suitable for very new staff, while giving essential refreshers to experienced team members and giving the while group a shot of enthusiasm and inspiration for their OSCAR role. Lots of active discussion, problem-solving and practical simulations of OSCAR settings.

Topics

-  Strength-based practice – a positive approach to working with children

-  Active supervision and safety practices during games and other activities

-  Child safety and staff safety – it’s all about boundaries

-  Getting started with children: building a positive professional relationship

-  A professional team – how staff work together, sets the example

This is a 2-3 hour workshop that's very customisable for your team. As a longer session, there are options to add more topics on behaviour guidance or activity leadership skills.

This course is only available as an in-person workshop.

Cost: OSCN members: $65-00 per person, ($60-00 per person if more than 3 people attending.); non-members: $95-00 per person

No payment is required for initial registration or a booking enquiry. Confirmation and more details of the course are sent by email, once a booking has been made. We only charge for actual attendance at our courses.
